Alcatel OneTouch Idol 4S packaging allegedly doubles up as a VR headset

Alcatel OneTouch is slated to unveil the Idol 4S shortly, and it looks like the brand is looking to differentiate itself by packaging the phone in a hard plastic box that doubles up as a Google Cardboard-style VR headset. That's according to Evan Blass at VentureBeat.

The Idol 4S and the Idol 4 leaked on the company's website recently, giving us a look at the specs on offer. The Idol 4S runs Marshmallow out of the box, featuring a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display, octa-core Snapdragon 652 SoC, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 16MP camera with f/2.0 lens, an 8MP front shooter, and a 3000mAh battery.

The Idol 4 comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 617, 2GB/3GB of RAM, 16GB internal memory, 13MP camera at the back, 8MP front camera, and a 2160mAh battery. The Idol 4 is slated to be available for under $250, while the Idol 4S may be priced under $400. No mention as yet of an official unveil, but with MWC 2016 around the corner, it is likely we'll hear more from Alcatel OneTouch later this month.
