Fast File Transfer

Features & Functionality

Are you still using bluetooth or usb cables to transfer large files between your devices; aren’t you tired of waiting how long it usually takes?
Introducing Fast File Transfer, as its name implies it is a free android app that makes file transfer fast. It doesn’t use bluetooth or usb cables instead it uses Wi-Fi Tethering.
It turns your mobile device into a Wi-Fi hotspot and create a WLAN. After that, files can be shared freely on any device connected on the same WLAN. A big plus is that it doesn’t need an active internet connection in order to transfer a file.
File transfer speed using Fast File Transfer app is obviously faster than bluetooth. According to the app description on Google Play “Up to 20x speed of bluetooth”. Here are its features:
  • Easy to setup
  • No data usage or internet required for file transfer (Just for advertisements)
  • The receiver does not have to have the app installed
  • Send single or multiple files
  • Displays QR codes for faster receiving
To transfer a file, simply tap the “share button” or “Share via” in any file explorer or in the gallery app, then choose Fast File Transfer on the list and follow the on-screen instructions.
If you want to simplify and speed up the process. Just tap the mobile device  icon with the Wi-Fi signal in the middle, it will show the QR code. On the receivers phone, open a QR Reader app (you can download it here) and use it to scan the QR code, after it, it will immediately start the transfer process.
It’s worth quoting what the developer of the app says
PLEASE NOTE:
This app might not run on some phones due to restrictions of manufacturers or carriers that make it impossible for the app to access WiFi tethering.
The app does not work on:
Most HTC devices
Motorola Razr XT910 (Restarts phone; Problem in Motorola’s Android implementation)
Motorola Razr XT890
Some Galaxy Y devices
Devices that don’t have WiFi Tethering setting, such as the Nexus 7
So how was it? Did you notice how fast it was? According to the developer Florian Draschbacher: “The transfer speed depends on the sender and receiver device. The highest value I measured is 33 Mbit/s which means 1 GB in under 5 minutes.
Bonus: You can use this app to transfer files to an iPhone.

Speed & Stability

I have installed this app on every android device that i have and all was speedy and stable. No hangs, no force closes, no lags, no crashes, no broken downloads. It is a stable app.

Interface & Design

Fast File Transfer interface and design adheres to Android Design Principles. Simple, clean, nothing fancy.
Works on both portrait and landscape mode. Buttons are big enough to be tapped.

Improvements

Things that can be improve in this app:
  • App users will easily be able to make the transfer process easier if the developer use text that says “Tap image for QR code” just below the mobile device icon with the Wi-Fi signal on the middle; instead of the “toast” popup. Because app users might miss it.
